There are very few Buddhists in Bangladesh and ethnologically
have different types of cultures and traditions. For example; Barua, Rakhain,
Marma, Adibassi, Cakma etc. Among them recently there are number of
Adibasi(aboriginal) peoples in North-Bengal of Bangladesh following
Buddha-Dhamma encouraged from their ancient tradition and culture. They used to
claim that we are the most ancient Buddhists. But chronologically sometimes because
of poverty, sometimes war, disaster, political crisis caused them to go with such
a bad situation. Buddha dhamma was being
flourished long ago during the life time of the Buddha supported by King
Ajatasattu, Sometimes King Asoka, sometimes king Dharmapala, Devapala when
Buddha dhamma was in it is pinnacle in different periods of kingdom. That is
why the region; North-Bengal of Bangladesh is a kind of root of a tree in a
sense. The ground of sowing seed of Buddha-Dhamma is more fertile than other
region of Bangladesh. If we are not concern about the root of Buddha dhamma in
Bangladesh the root may die and in the future there will not have
Buddha-Dhamma. But the question may appear how and who may revive the Buddhism
in North-Bengal? There are many scholars in the past and as well as recently
there are some enthusiastic monks and lay devotees working for the propagation
of the Buddha Dhamma particularly in North-Bengal of Bangladesh. But as of its
concern that Bangladesh is a country of Muslim majority where there is
religious discrimination badly although officially to be written non-communal
that is why not only by building new temple but supporting to those ignored,
uneducated, poor peoples have to be organized by means of giving them the essence of the Buddha-Dhamma. Thus the
peoples will be educated culturally, mentally and materially rich.
